MALAYSIA SABAH 4X84mw POWER PLANT EPC PROJECT AGREEMENT SUCCESSFULLY SIGNED

Feb 20, 2008 – Contract for the Malaysian Sabah 4×84mw power plant was officially executed in the capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Contract sum is 310 million US dollars.

Our company (China Power) president, Mr. Chou Loak Lim and president of TNB, Dato Sri Che Khalid, executed the contract on behalf of their companies respectively.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by both the China Ambassador to Malaysia and the TNB chairman, Tan Sri Leo Moggie.

In the press conference that followed, president, Mr. Chou and president, Dato Sri Che Khalid answered questions from the many reporters present.

The contract signing was covered by the media represented by The Malaysia Financial Daily, The Oriental Daily, The Nanyang and The China Press.

This Sabah Power Plant project is for the purpose of resolving the problem of power supply shortage. It is to be located in the vicinity of Lahad Datu.

Contract period is 38 months.

Terms and conditions is inclusive of design, material supply, construction, installation and commissioning of all EPC.

Since December 2005, our No.1 department, under top leadership, started to follow this project. Despite competing with 13 other companies, with careful and outstanding preparation with our joint venture partner, we won the contract and were notified of our success in September 2007.

Our president and vice president personally led our project team to have several meetings with the owner. A few days before the signing they have spontaneously and wisely resolved a few important and problematic conditions so that the contract could be signed on schedule.

This project is the first of its kind between Malaysia TNB and a Chinese Construction Company.

The successful bidding of this project greatly enhances the influence of China Power in Malaysia.

Dear Sandakan families, friends and supporters,

The Anti Coal-Fire Plant Action Committee will be gathering at the Sandakan Rainforest Park, (Kebun Cina or Taman Tshun Ngen) at 4pm, 29th NOVEMBER.  We hope to draw as many people as possible – especially women and children - to stand behind us in telling our government and SESB and ALL those involved THAT we do not want the set up of a COAL-FIRE POWER PLANT  in SANDAKAN. The risks are too high; to our people, environment and future!

The press will be invited to photograph the group. PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. This rally is held in conjunction with the SANDAKAN BIRD FAIR which will be officially opened by our CM MUSA AMAN, Tourism, Environment & CUlture minister MASIDI MAJUN, National Tourism Minister Dato AZALINA OTHMAN, our MPS president and various VIPS at the RAINFOREST DISCOVERY CENTRE RDC, SEPILOK, Mile 14, on the same day.

So there will not be a ‘clash’ of people. Do not worry.

Dirty Coal Power

We all use electricity in our daily lives, almost without thinking about it — turning on the lights, listening to the radio, using computers. If we stopped and learned about the energy we use, we would encounter some shocking realities about how energy production affects our health and our environment.

Where Our Power Comes From

With all the amazing technological advancements over the last century, one thing that has not changed very much is our reliance on fossil fuels, in particular, dirty coal to generate electricity. More than half of the electricity generated in the United States comes from coal.¹   The producers of the largest share of our nation’s energy, coal-fired power plants are also one of the dirtiest sources of electricity.

Lovely harbour, history and seafood — Sandakan is more than just a gateway to Sabah’s nature reserves.

Many people think that Sandakan is on the tourist map because of its proximity to the world famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Sandakan is much more than Sepilok. I didn’t know, until I stood at the waterfront in Harbour Square and looked out into the bay.

Sandakan, in north-eastern Sabah, has one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world. If Sabah looks like a dog’s head, then Sandakan is somewhere near its eye. The waters of the bay open up to the Sulu sea, just south of the Philippines.

KUALA LUMPUR: No new power plant is needed for the country until the end of next year as electricity demand has dropped from 4.8% last year to this year’s 2.8%, said Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.

He said the country’s electricity reserve margin was also expected to rise from 42% to 47% next year with the commissioning of a new independent power producer (IPP) in Jimah, Negri Sembilan.
"We don’t have to worry about power supply because we have enough capacity until the end of next year and there is no need to build a new plant," he said Tuesday after launching Kampus Astro here.
