Cadangan Penjanak Kuasa Arang batu di Sandakan

My Parliament Speech On Police, Order of Education Department

February 27th, 2009 (8 hours ago) by Teresa

Cadangan Penjanak kuasa

Testimonial : stop the coal-fired power plant

Posted by Save Sandakan On February - 19 - 2009

I am an engineer and specialised in

power.  I strongly support to stop the

coal fire plant for the following

reasons:-

1. SESB has spent huge money to build this east coast grid but end up with unrealiable system,………….

2 Gas power plant  can replace all SESB’s power plants burning light or diesel fuel oil……………….

3. Sabah do not produce coal and it rely on import from kalimantan , No matter how good is your system or what you can write blah blah via your EIA report, finally, ……… it is useless…………

4.Our DOE do not carry out their duty in an efficient manner…………..

5.East coast power supply is sufficient.  There is no need for coal power plant…….because of over supply and NO DEMAND of power……………..

6. Sabah got lot of natural gas. Why gas power plant can not be set up in east coast? Can, why not………

7.Coal plant produces very fine ash.  where do they dump the fine ash?…………..

    Coal-Fired Power Plant

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) intends to hold a peaceful demonstration before the State Cabinet convenes on Wednesday, to protest plans to build coal-fired power plants in Sabah.

SAPP Secretary-General, Datuk Richard Yong, expects more than 100 people to turn up for the protest, to be held at the road leading to Wisma Innoprise in Likas, here, where the Chief Minister’s Department is located, to reiterate objections to such plants because of their potential hazards to the environment.

Yong, accompanied by Vice-President Don Chin and assistant Secretary-General Foo Fook Ming and other SAPP Supreme Council members, submitted and application for a police permit to stage the demonstration at the Karamunsing police station, here, Monday.

If approved, the demonstration will be staged for about an hour from 9am.

"We urge the State Cabinet to cancel the proposed coal-fired plant in Sandakan as was done in the case of Lahad Datu in April," Yong Said.

SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee joined a peaceful rally at Seguntor in Sandakan last Friday to protest against a planned coal-fired power plant in the area, undertaken by Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

Solidarity call for REJECTION of Sandakan Coal-Fired Power Plant.

Dear Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Musa bin Hj Aman/ Sabah Cabinet/ Ministers & Assistant  Ministers.

We are  resident of Sandakan who are eligible to vote in the next General Election. Normally, there would be many issues which would influence a voter in an election; but in the next General Election, our vote will be decided by ONLY ONE issue: if the proposed coal power plant is built.
Coal is a very dangerous and harmful material. Exposure to coal burning can cause birth defects and gene mutation to our next generation, deadly diseases such as cancer and heart attacks to all human beings, poisoning our water, air and seafood (which Sandakan is famous for), as well as destroying our wildlifes and natural environment. We are not confident that a profit-making company which operates a giant coal power plant would spend sufficient money to keep us safe and healthy. In any event, it would be stupid for us to put our family’s destinies and ours in their hands, so any ‘Environmental Impact Assessment Report’ is actually meaningless to us. As Y.A.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman, the Chief Minister, said,
"After weighing the pros and cons, the Cabinet decided to scrap the proposed project, because we do not want to risk the welfare and health of the communities in the area as well as any adverse impact on the environment… I know some say with today’s technology, the proposed plant is safe and clean but some experts also disagree." (New Sabah Times, 3 April 2008)
If the health of wild animals of Danum Valley and the human beings of Lahad Datu are important, we believe in Sandakan are equally important too. It is very rare for a SINGLE issue to decide a vote in any Election, but this will be it for us – because it is also rare that a SINGLE decision will affect so many people and so many generations in Sandakan.
Therefore, if the Barisan Nasional Federal or State Government allows a Coal Power Plant to be built within a 100 km radius of Sandakan, we will definitely NOT vote for the Barisan Nasional in the future General Elections, whoever is the Candidate. Because if we do, we would be committing an unforgivable crime against our future generations. We are thankful for what BN has done for Sandakan so far, so we might not vote for the opposition either (We are not sure about that yet); but because of this coal power plant, we are very sure that we will definitely NOT vote for BN anymore.
True, Sandakan needs new energy sources, but that does NOT mean that we will give up our health for electricity. Anybody would knows that coal is a cheaper and easier solution – we do NOT need to elect our wise leaders to tell us that! We elect our government to find difficult and intelligent solutions for the people’s wellbeing, NOT easy, lazy and dangerous ones.
PLEASE DO YOUR PART AS THE PEOPLE’S REPRESENTATIVE/ LEADER TO SAVE SANDAKAN AND OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
We repeat: so long as BN listens to the people and scrap the coal power plant, this will NOT be a reason for us to not vote for BN.

Yours faithfully,

Residents of Sandakan

The residents of Taman Sibuga and Mawar staged a peaceful demonstration at the POIC site at Seguntor, Sandakan this morning to express their concern and stand on the rejection of the proposed Coal-fired Power Plant in Sandakan.

Coal Plant : SEPA wants S’kan people in panel

Posted by Save Sandakan On February - 9 - 2009

"SEPA Calls for representation on TOR

and reinforced Sandakan’s stand on

REJECTION of Coal-Fired Power

Plant !"

The Sandakan branch of the Sabah Environmental Protection Association (Sepa Sandakan) is concerned over the exclusion of Sandakan communities from the panel drafting the Terms of Reference for the proposed 300MW coal-fired power plant in Seguntor.

"There are important parameters which we want included for study as part of the Terms of Reference ( TOR )for the Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (DEIA). But there is notably no representation of Sandakan communities in the panel in drafting the terms of reference," Chow said.

"These important parameters must be considered and the DEIA must be balanced, unbiased and conducted in a manner without compromising the wellbeing and best interests of the Sandakan communities at large," Chow said.

Letter from GREENPEACE INDONESIA

Posted by savesdk3 On February - 8 - 2009

Anton,

In Indonesia, we are also facing the same problem with you. The Government of Indonesia is planning to build 35 new coal-fired power plant around the country by 2010. The reason, why they choose coal for energy is because they considered coal is the cheapest fuel compare to others sources. It is obviously, a bad reason and wrong argument from the Government.

We are now working together with coal impacted community in several places, to build community opposition and community awareness about the bad impact of coal-fired power plant.
For instance, on September last year we conducted health survey for the community who living around Cilacap–one of the biggest coal-fired power plant in Indonesia– we found 90% of total respondent has been affected by the respiratory related disease. Black lung, etc.

We used our finding fact from the survey to build  community awareness around the power plant. And They are now very concern about their health condition due to coal fired power plant.

We also build anti coal coalition with several NGO in Indonesia. Work closely to oppose the government plan.

For your information, this week 11-12 February, we will anti coal community event in Cilacap.
We will have several activities there. Such as :

* Health Camp– Free medical check for community living around
coal-fired power plant
* Launch our report about the bad of coal (The True Cost of Coal Report)
* Photo Exhibition and Movie

We also will build action plan with coal impacted community from several areas in Indonesia.
If you want to come to Indonesia for this activity.
Don’t hesitate to contact me.
I think this is good opportunity for us to build strong anti coal coalition not only in Indonesia but also in the South East Asia Region.
So, please come if you are interested.
