SUSTAINABILITY IN SANDAKAN, A MERE UNFOUNDED DREAM
World town planning day and world Habitat Day have just passed us by,
The themes “The way forward in sustainability” and “Harmonious Cities”
Appear meaningless for Sandakan,
The acclaimed Nature City of Borneo.
The plan to build the coal-fired power plant in Sandakan
Is a regressive move and not supported by the citizens
Already infrastructure wise, we are so behind
Allowing the plant to be installed
Along with its pollution potential
Will further place Sandakan in a bad light.
More than 50,000 signature pledges were obtained
Against having this high carbon producing machine
Our quest to contain Sandakan’s natural state
All seem to go to waste
As the powers that be have no concern and no maturity
To think about what is right for the environment
And for the people who voted them in.
With the coal power plant
By the bay of Sandakan
Our seafood will all be tainted and polluted
The air we breathe in will not be so good
Not to mention the noise pollution
And the massive carbon production.
Though we seem to be fighting a losing battle
We persevere to gather more people
To join us against this mad decision
As we want Sandakan to be a healthy place to live in
Not just for the present population
But for our future generation years on.
